"Delicate granite rock, crumbling apart in my hands"
new work for saxophone, cello and piano
Gelos Duo is delighted to be working on a new piece, composed by Electra Perivolaris 'Delicate Granite Rock, Crumbling Apart In My Hands’, alongside cellist Adam Hall. The piece will be premiered during the Piano Festival in March and the Plug Festival in May 2018 at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
Electra has been described by BBC Radio 3’s Verity Sharp as ‘one of a new generation of female trailblazers’ following a broadcast of her music on ‘Late Junction’ and was selected by Radio 3’s Katie Derham as ‘one of 11 inspiring female composers from past to present’, alongside composers such as Meredith Monk. Her music has been described by ‘The Scotsman’ as ‘striking and surehanded..elusive and mercurial’.
Her music has been performed across the UK and internationally by musicians of the Aurora Orchestra, the BBC Singers, Hebrides Ensemble and BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. This year she was selected to be an Associate Member of the London Symphony Orchestra’s Soundhub scheme for Emerging Composers. She has also been awarded the 2018 Kimie Composition Prize and she is an Ambassador for the BBC Inspire Young Composers’ scheme.
